In November of 2023, I had the privilege of being selected to attend the Conference of Youth (COY) in Dubai which is an annual gathering of young people from around the world, held just before the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP). This conference provides a platform for youth to come together to discuss, strategize, and advocate for climate action and sustainability. The primary objectives are to allow for: youth participation in climate negotiations, capacity building and workshops, creating a youth climate declaration, and networking and collaboration. While I didn’t have a badge for COP in order to attend the larger negotiations, I was able to attend The Green Zone of COP where I sat in on presentations, and workshops, and attended interactive exhibits. Overall, it was an incredible experience that allowed me to learn and connect with people from all over the world, helping me realize how interconnected we all are and how powerful it is to be in a space with so many like-minded individuals who are changing the world in the ways they are able in their respective regions.
